Appropriately enough, I disappeared from here on Halloween, the day that all the spirits of the dead and inhuman devils emerge from the underworld. And two days later, George W. Bush won the election for President of the United States.

I guess I've been in shock ever since. Despite his obvious moral cowardice, his heritage with the right wing of the Democratic party, and his general lack of appeal, I really thought that Kerry would win this one. The night of the election, I was lying on the bed with my girlfriend and a friend, watching as each of the states came in, fear crawling through me on icy spider legs. It seemed absolutely impossible to me, which only made it scarier. Any moment, I kept thinking, the states would stop turning Red. The experience was like watching a Bond movie where you know that 007 will get out of Blofeld's latest death trap. But then, something goes wrong, and next thing you know, he's been turned into sushi and SPECTRE is ruling the world.

Really, I have to stand by my earlier assertion that things wouldn't have been so much better with Kerry. But at least they wouldn't be so fucking bad.

Really, all my rage now is directed at the Democrats and their continued spinelessness. If nothing else, the Republicans have a certain integrity about them in pushing their authoritarian agenda without remorse or hesitation. The Dems, on the other hand, have no agenda and simply stand by passively, not even bothering to stand up when they're getting kicked in the teeth.

It's a New Year, and I'm resolving to keep my anger. I'm also resolving that unlike a lot of Americans, I'm not gonna move to Canada until there's absolutely no fucking choice. I'll be damned if I let the fanatics have my home.
