A lot of the stuff that streams out of Twitter every day is meaningless nonsense that is only barely above the level of white noise. I have literally known people who regularly tweeted about their bowel movements. BDSM Bad Advice is one of the things that makes the whole thing worth it. Run by Jonathan Byrel Moore since August, the Twitter feed regularly gives exactly what it promises: concise tidbits of really, REALLY bad advice for BDSM which unfortunately skates the line between satire and reality. A few of the helpful hints from the Twitter feed include:
A restraining order is just a sub’s way of telling you to be more dominating. (November 5)
If your mom freaks out upon learning you’re kinky, send her a scat movie with a note, “Aren’t you glad I just like to get beaten?” (November 5)
If you want to be someone’s slave, quit your job and show up at their home unannounced with your stuff. That shows you’re serious about M/s. (October 24)
BDSM Bad Advice has recently started expanding its inexorable grasp. In addition to the Twitter feed, Jonathan has been printing expanded Bad Advice on his blog and on Skin Two. But even better, he’s recruited artist Chris Kelsey to help him turn his Bad Advice into webcomic form. They’ve gotten off to a great start, and the first one should be familiar both to kink fans and science-fiction fans. It depicts a very familiar clash between our fantasy play and feelings about the real world. The fiasco about Max Mosley’s sexual kinks springs immediately to mind. Mosley, the former president of Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) had to step down in 2008 when a newspaper published an account of a play session he had with five women dressed in Nazi uniforms. In his case, of course, there was an extra twist that went beyond kinky sex: his father was Oswald Mosley, the prominent British Fascist from the 30s and 40s.
Like the rest of us, Moore is suffering financially from the last thirty years of Americans allowing Republicans who masturbate to Ayn Rand novels to run the country, so if you want to support him and Kelsey, he’s offering a bribe:
